How It Started:

These clients reached out not long after purchasing a bit of a remote property tucked away in a beautiful area — the kind of place you can tell has a lot of potential the moment you see it. But like a lot of older recreational spots, it came with its fair share of surprises.

Sitting on the property was an old cabin that had long since been taken over by squirrels and small rodents. What was once meant to be a cozy getaway had become more of a fixer-upper than they wanted to tackle. Still, they loved the land, and they could see the long-term vision clearly — a place where family and friends could gather, relax, and enjoy the outdoors together.

Their plan was to start small and grow over time. Rather than jumping straight into a full cabin rebuild, they wanted to begin by adding a few bunkies for extra sleeping quarters, along with a washroom and laundry area so they could make better use of the property right away. That setup would let them stay comfortably in more of a camping style, while they took their time planning the larger cabin build for down the road.

When they first reached out, we loved the approach — it’s exactly the kind of phased project that makes sense for remote or seasonal properties. We set up a site visit to walk the land, take measurements, and make sure we’d be able to get everything in and placed properly once it was ready to deliver. The layout had a few challenges, but nothing we couldn’t work around.

The Build:

Once the plans were finalized, we landed on the Peak Bunkies — a design that checked every box for what these clients were looking for. They loved the clean lines and modern shape of the Peak model, and especially the large picture window that mirrors the roofline pitch. It adds a ton of natural light, opens up the view to the surrounding property, and gives the interior that open, airy feel that makes even a smaller footprint feel spacious.

Because the property is in a fairly wet, coastal climate, they also wanted a covered patio built onto each unit. That small design choice makes a huge difference — giving them a dry space to take off shoes, store gear, and keep mud and moisture out of the interior. It also adds a cozy, finished look to the front of each bunkie and creates a more practical transition between indoors and outdoors.

Since power on the site is limited, the plan was to run propane heat in the bunkies. That allows them to stay warm and comfortable through cooler months without relying on electric heat. It’s a smart setup for remote properties like this one, where flexibility and efficiency matter most.

The second part of the project was the washroom and utility building — a key piece that would make the whole setup much more functional in the short term. We designed the space to include two separate washrooms, each with its own shower, plus a laundry and mechanical area tucked into one side. That gave them everything they needed to extend their stays, clean up after long days outdoors, and make the property feel more like a home base than a campsite.

Altogether, the build struck the perfect balance between comfort and simplicity — durable, low-maintenance, and ready to use in all seasons, while still leaving room to expand down the line when it’s time for their full cabin build.

The Installation:

For the install, the goal was to get all three units craned in on the same day. Coordinating it this way keeps crane time efficient and helps keep delivery costs down, so our team did some planning to make sure everything lined up perfectly.

We had enough smaller trailers to haul all three units down at once, which made things run smoothly from the start. Once on site, we coordinated with the crane operator and the landscaping crew to prepare the access and staging areas.

The property had a fairly tight driveway, but Trenchtech had done an excellent job widening it just enough, levelling the grade, and making sure we had the space we needed to maneuver.

The crane was carefully backed in and set up in position, and we started with the washroom unit first, since it needed to be placed on the far side of a rock wall. Once that was in position, we brought in the two bunkies one by one, swinging each into place beside it.

It was definitely a tight fit, but everything came together exactly as planned. The coordination between crews made a big difference. The Trenchtech team stayed on-site throughout the day to lend a hand, keeping the area clear and helping us get each placement right on target.

By the end of the day, all three units were set, levelled, and ready for finishing touches.

Another Successful Delivery!

These builds gave the clients exactly what they were hoping for. A comfortable, well-designed setup that makes the property usable right away, while still laying the groundwork for their future cabin plans. From weekend stays to longer visits with family and friends, they now have a place that fits the rhythm of how they want to spend time there. Simple, functional, and built to last.
