How It Started:
This project began with a simple message on Instagram. The clients reached out after seeing our work and shared their vision. They were buying a lot in Sunshine Valley and wanted to build something modular that would make the most of the space while still feeling like a true getaway.
We kept in touch as they finalized the purchase, and around Christmastime last year they reached back out ready to move forward. Right after the holidays, we went out for a site visit to walk the property, check access, and start mapping out what would become a brand-new custom layout.
They were living in the Vancouver area and wanted a place close enough for weekend escapes, but that could also double as a short-term rental when they weren’t using it. From the start, they wanted the complete package. Not just the home, but a sauna, outdoor shower, and patio space all designed to tie together seamlessly. After visiting the site and finalizing the layout, we were ready to move straight into the build.
The Build:
The design came together as an L-shaped home, made up of two 11.5′ × 27′ modules joined at a right angle. The main module features the entry, living area, and full kitchen, while the second module includes the bathroom, laundry, and master bedroom. All arranged to create a comfortable, natural flow around the shared patio.
Inside, the kitchen is built for real living, not just weekend use:
-
36″ counter-depth fridge
-
30″ range and hood fan
-
18″ dishwasher
-
30″ sink
-
Custom white shaker cabinets built from ¾″ solid birch. No prefab boxes or flat-pack shortcuts.
The bathroom is spacious, with a 48″ vanity, vessel sink, and his-and-hers drawers for extra storage. There’s a 3′ × 5′ walk-in shower with an acrylic base, matte white tile walls, and our standard rain head and wand setup with a three-way valve, so both can be used at once.
A separate mechanical and laundry room sits off the bathroom behind a pocket door, housing the HRV system, hot-water heater, and a stacked washer/dryer, plus shelving for linens and storage.
In the master bedroom, there’s a six-foot sliding door and a large picture window overlooking the patio, sauna, and outdoor shower. All framed for a perfect view from bed. The room’s layout is designed around a king-sized bed, giving it the look and feel of a luxury cabin suite.
For heating and cooling, the home includes a dual-head mini-split system. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. Plus a certified wood-burning stove for those cozy winter nights. Everything is fully WETT-certified and insurable.
Alongside the home, we built an 8′ × 8′ Mini-Mode sauna finished in black metal with a cedar accent wall, and a 3′ × 3′ outdoor shower to match. Fitted with HUUM electric Wi-Fi heater, so the sauna can be started remotely from bed. A small luxury that makes a big difference. The cedar patio ties everything together visually, matching the cabin’s wood accents and creating one seamless outdoor living space.
The Installation:
The install took place over several days to coordinate the home, sauna, and patio build. We delivered the first module on day one, setting it temporarily on blocks beside the screw piles. The second module arrived the following day, left on the trailer ready for lifting.
On day three, our crew returned with the sauna, shower, and deck materials, and the crane met us on-site for all the lifts. We placed both home modules first, aligning and connecting them into the L-shape, then craned the sauna into position. By coincidence, the clients’ shed delivery arrived the same day, and we were able to use the crane to help them set that too. Perfect timing all around.
Once the structures were in place, we connected and waterproofed the modules, and the following week the sub-trades came to tie in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC between the two sections. The week after that, our crew returned to finish the interior connections and build the patio, bringing everything together into one complete, turn-key setup.
Another Successful Delivery!
The clients have already spent multiple weekends out there, enjoying the cabin, sauna, and outdoor shower. They’re still adding a few finishing touches around the property, but the home is already everything they envisioned. Modern, warm, and ready for both personal use and guest stays.
